As I study the way the Lord physically fed the Children of Israel, I found this incredible video about how we can and why it is necessary for us to be spiritually nourished daily: Watch and share
Archive for Spiritual Food
Bob and I read about Nephi’s broken bow this morning, (I Nephi 16). I have learned many lessons from this chapter. The one I share today is verse, 28.
First some background if you’re not familiar with the story and don’t want to read it:
–Nephi’s family left their home and riches in Jerusalem because the city was so wicked. The Lord told Lehi (the dad/prophet) to leave before the city was destroyed (600 BC)
–They are in the wilderness being guided by the Lord and “slaying food by the way with our bows and our arrows and our stones and our slings” (that’s from verse 15).
–BREAKING NEWS!!! Nephi’s steel bow breaks!!
–He makes a new one out of wood (more about this in an upcoming post)
–Family is happy for food after complaining and being mad
–The Lord provides a “ball and pointers” (we know this as the liahona) to guide them “according to the faith and diligence and heed which we did give unto them.”
This is the verse that touched my heart this morning. In our day, the liahona is the scriptures and living prophets. They will guide us based on our faith and our diligence.
WHOA….what is that? I learned my own BREAKING NEWS this morning. The scriptures will guide me only when I am faithful and diligent. If I read them haphazardly just to “check off” my activity and do not strive to live the teachings of the gospel…..oh well. I am most likely not going to get the guidance I am seeking.
In other words, I will obtain NO SPIRITUAL FOOD if I do not seek it.
Personal revelation, the guidance from the spirit, is available to nourish our spirits and guide us WHEN we exercise our faith and search the scriptures DILIGENTLY. When I think of “diligently” I think of DAILY. It’s not a once-in-a-while, when-I-think-of-it or when-I-have-time type of activity. It’s seeking daily, consistently, even when I don’t feel like it or think I am too busy, that my personal liahona will teach and touch my spirit. And yours. When you do likewise.
